Over the past few years, Venezuelan society has been rapidly deteriorating. Civil unrest has heightened to the point of rioting, looting, violent crime and a government opposition group that is keen on overthrowing Maduros government.
Many have blamed Venezuelas chaos on its socialist government. There are many socialist nations that arent in complete shambles, and many that have had some success. While I dont agree with socialism as an ideology, I dont believe Venezuelas problems can be solely blamed on socialism.
Something that intensely pushed Venezuela into destabilization was the oil crash of 2014. Because the price of oil dropped so severely, and has remained low, pressure has been put on countries that rely on oil sales for most of their income. Countries with more diverse and expansive economies were better prepared to weather the storm.

I'd love to see a list of those "socialist" countries the author considers to have done well. In fact, they all displayed precisely the same problem: an autocratic, kleptocratic Party whose members enriched themselves at the expense of the citizens. Socialism is the credo of thieves, nothing more.
What will help Venezuela is bombing the presidential palace, skinning Maduro alive and hanging every Cuban mercenary from a lamppost.
