Is anybody else out there watching the "Snowfall" on FX? Something did not seem quite right but I couldn't quite figure it out. Well, today it hit me: the total absence of Crips & Bloods. Anybody familiar with the L.A. social scene in the early 80s would know that drug trafficking was dominated in South Central by those two rival gangs. Somebody could try to go into the drug business for himself but he wouldn't last long. Either the Crips or Bloods were going to get into his action or he wouldn't be long for this world. It would be like a bootlegger in 1920s Chicago trying to sell beer to speakeasies in Al Capone territory. He wouldn't last long.
Perhaps the Crips & Bloods will show up later in the series but it is incredibly bizarre that there is no reference to them so far.
He wants to blame it all on Reagan.
He probably has “technical advisors” with Crip and Blood connections - who remember perfectly well what happened to the technical advisors on the movie “American Me” when they disclosed too much about the Mexican Mafia and its operations.
Yeah, the story about the CIA feeding drugs to South Central has been discredited. So Singleton sticks with that myth but avoids the REALITY of the Crips & Bloods.
I don’t blame Singleton to be worried about his own safety but then he should have NEVER made “Snowfall” in the first place rather than present a completely distorted reality that writes out the existence of the Crips & Bloods.
An absence of Bloods, Crips, Folks, Peoples, Gangster Disciples, and other assorted ne’er do wells is not bizarre, it’s civilized society.

Hollywood stuff is seldom real.

I’ve been watching it and I like the show. I don’t know how accurate to history it is. I get the feeling he is starting at the inception of the coke craze in L.A. and the Crips and Bloods have yet to arise as players as the story stands now.
He is painting the CIA involvement as the work of one rogue agent so far. It makes for a logical plot line but I wonder how accurate that is.
This gang has members in black areas all over the country. As an aftermath of the Zimmerman trial after the President of the United States Barack H Obama claimed the assailant of a black Hispanic security guard who was killed over a struggle over the guards gun “could have been his son” Would appear to have inspired gang members retaliate to what was claimed to be a reported murder in cold blood by attacking non blacks wandering near their “hoods”.
Two were found guilty of murdering an Australian visitor from Melbourne, Christopher Lane here on a Duncan Oklahoma college scholarship. He was shot and killed from a vehicle operated by two Crypt gang members as he was exercising running down a Duncan street.
