America First Media Press Release

RE: Seth Rich?—?MPD Body Camera Program

August 6th, 2017

BODY-WORN CAMERA PROGRAM (GO-SPT-302.13)

America First Media is officially requesting a proper and formal statement, with follow up, to address concerns related to the body camera equipment used by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on the morning of July 10, 2016, at the homicide scene of Seth Conrad Rich in the Bloomingdale area of Washington, DC.

During the course of our investigation into said homicide, we have discovered seemingly numerous violations in the handling and processing of the body cam footage recorded by the attending officers, their superiors, and in particular, Metropolitan Police Department Privacy Officer Liz Lyons as per The General Order document, BODY-WORN CAMERA PROGRAM (GO-SPT-302.13) dated March 11th, 2016.

Wow! you wonder who would have given the order to destroy and when? Was it within a day or two of the incident? The Black SUV’s pulled up and told the WPD to stop filming, turn the systems off.

Who

What

Where

Why.

Police officers turning off body and dashboard cameras is a big problem and it all too often seems to occur at a violent crime scene or when officers are involved in shooting.

States across the country shocked make it a felony for cops to turn off or tamper with dashboard and body cameras.

I doubt I will ever in my life see body cam footage that shows an officer committing, aiding, or abetting a crime. The destruction of video evidence in these cases is universal.

The article isn’t clear. Is it claimed that the footage was destroyed under a 90-day retention period, when the retention period for homicide cases is actually 65 years?

Yesterday I re-watched a 1975 TV movie about the Black Dahlia murder in 1947 and how these two LAPD cops tried for years to solve her case but to no avail.

Well, at least they tried, which is more than can be said for ANY police agency as regards the case of Seth Rich.

It’s shameful. We really are increasingly living in a third world crap hole.

If the body cams are Go Pro style they’ll have removable memory storage, so any homicide-related memory cards can be removed and kept as evidence and replaced with a new card so the camera’s still usable in day-to-day policing.

there is absolutely no legitimate reason do delete or destroy the video footage. I say all offending parties should be ordered by a judge to produce the evidence and then jailed for contempt of court until that happens. If it’s been completely destroyed the perps can rot indefinitely.

Claiming “oopsie, there’s no footage” is not acceptable. Heads must roll. Individuals must be named and shamed and held to full account. Send a message that criminal cops will not be tolerated, nor those who cover for them.

In an ongoing criminal investigation, why would they hand over evidence to a FOIA request? Amateur sleuths must be a pain in the ass for law enforcement.

If there was a real investigation ... I haven’t seen any evidence of an investigation have you? I haven’t seen any evidence that Seth Rich is dead either. Perhaps the same little birdie that spoke in his families ear and told them not to stir up trouble had direct connections within the metro police/capitol police etc.
