I talked about it on Thursday with the rest of my team located in Houston. NWS and TWC were both stating early Thursday that this was going to be bad and flood beyond anything Houston had seen. Most people just didn’t want to believe it.

After Rita, people in Houston were afraid to try and evacuate again. I had coworkers stuck on the highway for 16 hours with the families. Once again, politics will be responsible for lots of suffering and death.

Where the mayor screwed up was not doing a limited evacuation of the areas that flood even with a couple inches of rain. Plus being an arrogant liberal about it.

Well, the white Republican Judge supposedly talked to the person who was doing the warning from that law firm and said leave the emergency warnings to Emmett and officials.

He owns this , too.

This is a perfect example of what you see in the movies.

We don’t want the truth to get out because it would cause a panic.

Was what they did wise?

I don’t know..but they are going to catch hell over it.

And it’s reminder to those in any situation ...pay attention to all information , sift it, consider it, and don’t rely on the government....because they don’t always tell the truth

“...limited evacuation...”

Exactly!! They should have known that a stalled hurricane and hurrricane remnant would be disastrous. Irene lingered for days in upstate NY and the flooding was severe.

The Houston mayor has access to very precise flood zone maps and could have evacuated the low lying areas and a further ring out from those areas.

It is a straw man excuse that he has put up that he could not evacuate the entire population of Houston residents - he did not have to evacuate all of them. Duh! (directed at mayor)

People died of heat stroke, stranded in their cars during Rita. Cars broken down on the roads, accidents, out of gas, no water to drink. It was a disaster.

It's easy to say "evacuate!" but to where? That Holiday Inn up the road with 500,000 rooms available?
