Diversey, a leading global provider of cleaning and hygiene solutions, will locate its new 100,000-square-foot corporate headquarters at the Lakemont Business Park in York County, SC. An additional 18,500 square feet of lab space will also be created to develop cutting-edge technology for cleaning and hygiene operations. The project is expected to result in $6.1 million in investment and approximately 400 jobs.

“I am extremely proud of building Diversey’s new global headquarters in York County, which will become the new home for our employees and their families,” said Diversey President and CEO Ilham Kadri. “Our new state-of-the-art campus will provide the best infrastructure, with the latest digital technologies and lab tools, to create a thriving environment for our employees and attract new talent. This campus, which will be inaugurated in the first quarter of 2018, will be a customer-centric hub designed to continue exceeding our customers’ expectations through our sustainability and Internet of Clean vision. It will exhibit our values and aspire to become the preferred place to work in the Carolinas.”

Diversey is a hygiene and cleaning solutions company that integrates chemicals, floor care machines, tools and equipment with a wide range of technology-based, value-added services. Employing approximately 8,600 people globally, the company provides smart, sustainable solutions designed to drive increased productivity, food safety and infection prevention to customers in more than 165 countries.

“South Carolina has become a magnet for high-tech and innovative companies, including those in the life sciences sector,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. “Today’s announcement by Diversey is further evidence that our pro-business strategy continues to pay off, and we’re proud that York County will be the home to yet another corporate headquarters.”

South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.

“Diversey’s decision to locate their new headquarters in York County and create 400 new jobs serves as an opportunity for South Carolinians to show the world how special of a place our state is, and we are confident they will do just that,” said Gov. Henry McMaster. “We know that this is just the beginning of an important and lasting relationship between Diversey and our great state.”

York, Chester, and Lancaster counties in South Carolina are experiencing growth because of proximity to Charlotte without suffering the crime, high taxes, and other disadvantages of the metroplex.

South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.

Buried and with a new euphemism. And no amount mentioned. Snort.

I agree.

My daughter lives in the Upstate and it is booming. Unfortunately traffic jams and crime seem to have increased as well.

Per article, $6.1 mil, I’m assuming from the taxpayers.

Make that at least $6.1 mil. I’m thinking it might be more.

It sounds like a name that only a high-paid marketing / branding / naming company could dream up after conducting hundreds of focus group sessions. “We need a new name that illustrates our strength is in our diversity. We need to show that is who we are.”

Their "History of Diversey" page shows this is an ugly stepchild company that nobody wants. The poor thing gets tossed from parent to parent, from temporary foster home to new foster home. But Child Protective Services continues to put pretty lipstick on their child and say it is beautiful:

Diversey Corporation was founded nearly 100 years ago in Chicago and grown to become a leader in the cleaning and hygiene industry. In 1996, Diversey was acquired by Unilever. In 2002, the business was sold to the Johnson Wax Professional enterprise, becoming JohnsonDiversey. Johnson Wax Professional separated in 1997 from its parent company S.C. Johnson Commercial Markets, to become a global competitor. In 2010, JohnsonDiversey was bought by private equity company CD&R when its name was simplified to Diversey, and a tagline was added to communicate the company’s vision; a cleaner, healthier future. Sealed Air purchased Diversey in 2011, creating a new division of the company as Sealed Air Diversey Care. Under new ownership, the company remained committed to its vision by becoming a leading global provider of commercial cleaning, sanitation, and hygiene solutions. The company´s products, systems and expertise have been making food, drink, and facilities safer worldwide. Today, Diversey touches the lives of 800 million workers directly or indirectly.

In late 2016, Sealed Air Corporation announced plans to spin-off its Diversey Care division along with the food hygiene and cleaning business within its Food Care division to create a new company. Diversey is poised to transform itself and the industry by changing the way the cleaning industry creates value by investing in research and innovative solutions. As our company becomes independent for the second time in our 90-year history, we are emerging stronger, smarter and more agile to create a brighter, safer future of clean.

Funny...Wiki mentions the 2017 private equity acquisition, but that is ignored on the company's own page: "Formerly JohnsonDiversey, Inc., Diversey was a brand of Sealed Air Corporation, under its Diversey Care Division until its acquisition by Bain Capital in September 2017."

If you're from Chicago, it looks like you know the "Diversey" name from way back:
Diversey Corporation was founded in Chicago in 1923.
Michael Diversey (1810 – 1869), an American beer brewer who immigrated from Germany.
Diversey (CTA), an 'L' station on the CTA Brown Line.
Diversey, Inc., manufacturer of cleaning and hygiene products.
Diversey Parkway (Chicago)
Diversey (novel), first novel from MacKinlay Kantor written in 1928 about Chicago gangsters.

“Michael Diversey (1810 – 1869), an American beer brewer who immigrated from Germany. “

So the company name comes from a family name. How subversive... smh

Cleaning products and devices seems like a pretty safe niche going forward. Good for Diversey, and welcome to South Carolina!
