Hyundai Dymos is currently working on an expansion that will add another 150 jobs to its West Point plant next year.

The West Point City Council has discussed the expansion previously and the Troup County Board of Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding for the expansion on Tuesday. The agreement will allow Hyunai Dymos Georgia to expand its existing facility in West Point. The expansion project will be owned by the West Point Development Authority who plans to lease the property to Hyundai under the agreement.

“Hyundai Dymos has a new $9.5 million expansion planned for the West Point facility and will create 150 new jobs in 2018,” Division Director Dexter Wells said.

Hyundai Dymos Georgia opened in 2014 and brought 350 jobs to the area at that time. The addition is already underway, and the location will likely start hiring next year.

“They have begun construction,” said Meghan Duke, the economic development director for the City of West Point. “Their hiring process will probably begin in February or March of 2018.”

Hyundai Dymos manufactures seats for automobiles, like those needed for the Kia Sorento that is also manufactured in West Point. According to Duke, the factory will also supply the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing facility in Montgomery.

The Troup County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to meet again on Sept. 19 at 9 a.m. at 100 Ridley Ave.

That’s a huge plant already. It’s off I-85 between Atlanta and the AL/GA border.
