When a person believes firmly in something on an emotional level, the last thing that will change their mind is reason. It’ll actually make them respond thusly.
He believes so firmly that it was an injustice there is literally no way to change his mind.
Yep... like all libs, emotions trump reason.
If we don’t attempt to use reason against these arguments it’s worse.
Blacks are smart enough to understand logic... to say otherwise is insulting to the many people in the black community who can easily get beyond ‘emotion and hype’...
You are correct that people who did not use logic to form a position can not be talked out that position using logic. However, logical arguments are still important for several reasons:
1) We are logical. By presenting a fact-based argument we are being true to our own beliefs and offering a distinction rather than just an opposing side.
2) In a debate, you are not trying to convince your opponent you are correct; you are trying to convince the audience you are correct. The people who are undecided can definitely be swayed by facts and logic.
3) Maybe I’m being overoptimistic, but I believe logic, objective facts, and reason are the best ways to understand the world. If we live our lives by these metrics, and our opponents use emotion and whimsy, I believe we will succeed while they fail.
