With that the floor opened up to what would turn into snide responses from the speaker and a shouting match between audience members and the director of the Scripps Humanities Institute, Professor Hao Huang.

“What’s CAIR’s stance on suicide bombings?” an older gentleman in the audience asked.

“That’s exactly what I’m talking about,” Ayloush shot back. “What’s your stance?”

The man then went on to say to the speaker, “The reason people are leery of you people…”

With that the room erupted and Professor Hao Huang told the audience member, “You don’t belong here if you can’t shut up. Shut up!”

After a screaming match telling each other to shut up, the man concentrated his efforts on the lecturer who ultimately refused to answer his stance on suicide bombings and instead said, “As a Muslim, I cannot enter paradise if I didn’t believe in the sanctity of life.”

The man in the audience then went on a tirade. “Isn’t it true that in the Quran you’re encouraged to lie to the infidel?” When Ayloush replied in the negative the man went on to read scriptures directly from the Quran to prove his point before eventually storming out of the room.

As the Q&A progressed, a Scripps student was berated for being brainwashed, Ayloush was called a bigot and a liar, and an audience member took the speaker to task for referring to Trump’s travel ban as a ban on Muslims.

“It was not a Muslim ban; it was a travel ban!” the attendee said to the speaker. “You’re a bigot and a liar.”
