Dear Marty,

The meter I have is an Accu-Chek Aviva Plus. I have had others, and every time you get a new can of test strips, you had to calibrate the meter wit using test samples that were supplied. With the ‘Plus’, you don’t need to do that step. This meter works for me, and the replacement battery is in the watch battery section of the store.

Yes, for right now, watch what you eat like a hawk. I do not know what your ‘number’ was that tipped off the dr., mine was ‘140’. I had a diabetic episode, slurred speech, loose chicken legs and all, at that number.

Good luck.

Thanks Terry!

I’m already cutting down on meal sizes/frequency and started taking a small (500 mg) daily dose of Metformin, possibly to be increased later.

I’ll look at the glucose monitory you recommended. The ability to track/offload to computer blood sugar data would be a plus.

2 measurements taken after my fasting for 12 hours my numbers were: 200+ and 188. NO ES BUENO.

Well, better to have discovered it now than later.

Thanks again,
marty
