I really appreciate your interest.

Just on the subject of reading, I’ve probably got 25 articles on the Internet.. I’m always looking for different ways to explain this murky stuff. Here’s one I’m very proud of because I never saw anyone else take this tack. http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/06/massive_k12_reading_failure_explained.html

Explaining complicated things in a simple way is what I most enjoy. Jefferson said never use two words if one will do. That’s a start.

I know there is a hardcover, paper, and e-book.

That’s the best explanation I’ve seen for the superiority of phonics over whole language, sight words, whatever it is called this week.

Thank you Bruce! I’ll do a google search for your other articles. The eBook version doesn’t seem to be available on Amazon, but I did click the ‘tell the publisher I’d like to read this book on Kindle’ button & followed you. I will try to find the eBook version hopefully elsewhere.

Speaking of common core math, my arguments against with my friend usually revolve around Microsoft Excel, which is used extensively in business & relies, IMHO, on knowledge of basic math problem solving. How in the world can these children be proficient in Excel in the workplace with the way they are being taught math. I can see a huge disconnect, but why don’t teachers? I hope to find something about this in your writings.

Your post has really peaked my interest, as well as Ouderkirk’s post. I’m also intrugued you mention adults read by ‘sight words’...who knew? I don’t even know what that means, except from my teacher friend, LOL! I’m an avid reader & have never had difficulties during K-12 & beyond, always my strongest subject. So it’s also interesting how, as an adult, I read. I’ve never thought about it, it’s 2nd nature to me & without a teaching background, you have me now thinking about that aspect. Interesting! Even without children, I find common core & all the seemingly problems children are having learing disturbing and defies common sense to me. After all, I am a taxpayer, so I’m paying for this stuff & children are a part of our society that affects us all. Many thanks & I have a new subject to investigate for further knowledge. Perhaps you could post some of your articles, etc. here on FR?
