Excellent. Oldman joins Day-Lewis, Bale in his ability to become another human.

Thanks, planning to see it!

I adore Gary Oldman but I have a hard time imagining him as Churchill. How did he do?

Why bothet? Today’s Britons are not worthy of Sir Winston. They fought like hell to ‘repel the Hun,’ only to willingly permit the invasion of the Muslim savages who will be their undoing as a nation and a people.

FDR was pretty much just a socialist political hack but the Greatest and Silent Generations idolized him. Most believe he saved them from the Great Depression when most historians have concluded that he prolonged it.

He did have the sense to get some good people on the Military side of the War though and let them run with it. Leahy and Marshall were two of the people he counted on. He did a lot of great things as a wartime leader because there was no other choice but at least he made a lot of right choices.

Let’s hope the nation does not reject Trump after he has pulled us back from the abyss that Barky had us in.

Churchill saved his nation and probably the world from the Axis and was rejected after that by the very nation he saved. Never did understand that. Never.

Give it month... It will be available for free on the internet. I assumed Dunkirk was going to be good... It was terrible, but you can’t go wrong with Churchill.

The man went from the disaster of Gallipoli directly to trenches of Europe in WW1 to atone... Then he became the 20th century’s greatest political hero recognizing German National Socialism for the evil it was well before others did, and he proceeded to rally the British the free world to destroy it after the darkest hour came.

The greatest leader of the 20th century. PERIOD! (Reagan and Pope John Paul II come in tied for second place in my books when they jointly defeated communism.)

We saw it Friday. There were a few WWII vets in the audience and they didn’t seem to have any criticisms of the movie. So nice to see a movie without special effects and grandiose background music. You had to pay attention, though, the dialogue went fast. I highly recommend it.

have now seen it 2x. at first i thought - hey, Gary Oldman is not Churchill(we’ve all seen him on old film). by the end of first viewing his grasp of Churchillian oratory had me in its grip. was saddened by the call to Roosevelt for obvious reasons. but heartened by the resolve of the Brits as i was with that amazing small boat fleet shot in “Dunkirk” (which i thought was fantastic).

Agreed! Darkest Hour was great and Gary Oldman was outstanding. Now I want to know everything abt Winston Churchill. I highly reccommend it - worth the money absolutely.

If everyone was older, does that mean it’s a really loooong movie?

:-)

Merry Christmas!

Really enjoyed it, but wish there had been subtitles. I had a really hard time understanding the dialogue at times and I’m not hard of hearing.

Unlike "Dunkirk" it was ALL acting.

If there are no Spits or He-111's at all then I'm not going.

What are Gary Oldman’s political views, or does that matter?

I saw it on Friday. Sadly, the theater was nearly empty. Maybe 20 people there for a prime time (7:30 PM) showing.

Oldman was outstanding as Churchill, but I thought the movie could have been better. It seemed to drag in spots, as is typical for a Biopic. Won’t be popular because lots of talking but not a lot of action. Other than Hitler, the villain was Lord Halifax, who was a British surrender monkey.

Oldman is a great actor and deserves the Oscar for this but won’t get it. Why? Because he portrayed Churchill.

Chamberlain was a left wing moron... his “Peace In our Time” announcement of his treaty with Germany just days before they invaded Poland should have ended left wing lunacy for anyone with half a brain.

But England tossed Chamberlain aside once he won the war.

The decline of the British Empire soon followed.

Is there any bad language? Mrs. JohnnyP can’t take it, especially G.D., J.C, etc.

Saw it at 9 am Saturday, as all other showings were “sold out” from Friday noon through Saturday midnight!

No empty seat in the house, except that these theaters are small and seating is designed with lounge chair-type seats, so not many in it.

Movie was fabulous, all acting superb, production quality top notch, should take all oscars given out!

Only flaw (untrue or never, ever reported of Winnie taking public transportation) adds to the overall theme of “going down fighting,” “death before dishonor!”

“Chamberlain still thought they could negotiate for peace.”

People forget that Chamberlain became a stalwart ally of Churchill throughout the war. Churchill wept openly at his funeral.
