Normally I wouldn’t notice as I’m usually cooking my keister off but bad weather here in upstate NY postponed Christmas Dinner until tomorrow when my son and DIL can make it.

Miracle on 34th Street
The Bells of St. Mary's
Holiday Inn
Christmas in Connecticut
A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim

I'll be watching It's a Wonderful Life on New Year's Eve.

Merry Christmas!

Here's a suggestion for a great off-the-radar Christmas and New Year's comedy/drama/romance directed by Billy Wilder: The Apartment. Stars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, and Fred MacMurray.

Terry Pratchett’s “Hogfather”. I absolutely love Susan.

She’d become a governess. It was one of the few jobs a known lady could do. And she’d taken to it well. She’d sworn that if she did indeed ever find herself dancing on rooftops with chimney sweeps she’d beat herself to death with her own umbrella.

It’s probably not the holidays cup of tea for many, but an annual must watch for us is The Ref. Not for kiddies, but funny as heck.

I was wracking my brain last night trying to remember a movie I've seen a couple of times, and finally found it by searching online. It's from 1940, black and white...titled "Beyond Tomorrow." It was re-released in 2004 as a colorized version titled "Beyond Christmas," which includes the original black and white.

Synopsis from Amazon: "A rare holiday treasure. This uplifting story begins on Christmas Eve in New York City, as three elderly businessmen prepare to enjoy a festive dinner together. In a show of holiday spirit, they receive visits from two kind-hearted strangers first a young man, then a young woman. Each has come to return a wallet they believe one of the gentlemen has lost. From this humble beginning, friendships are built, and romance ensues. Filled with heart and soul, this charming 1940 holiday classic is prefect for the Christmas season. In color for the first time and expertly restored, this film will surely become a part of your family holiday tradition."

Here's a site that lists 8 forgotten Christmas movies to check out:

My mom made us watch the Nutcracker, the ballet one with Baryshnikov, 30 + year's ago... And as I grew older, I appreciated it more. My kids love it now and so do I. They are 11 yr old boy, 8 yr old girl. Beautiful music and dancing. It has fighting senses for the boys and cute stuff for the girls.

Just leave it on the Hallmark Channel. Limited commercials so the movies are 1.5 hours.

As opposed to FX stretching their very unseasonable movies out to 2.5 hours.

In no particular order:

The Bishop's Wife
Beyond Christmas (colorized version of Beyond Tomorrow)
Holiday Inn (colorized)
Donovan's Reef (Yes, a John Wayne/Lee Marvin Christmas movie!)
A Christmas Story
A Christmas Wish (Jimmy Durante colorized)
Miracle on 34th Street (colorized)

There are so many more. I recommended the colorized versions because they are so well done that I found myself fascinated seeing details I overlooked from the original B&W classics.
