With so many States and areas enacting magazine capacity limits G17 mags are not legal to purchase in many places. I don't see the logic here.

Eight states. And even if it was 30 or more, why should restrictions in those states be used to justify reducing magazine capacities for gun buyers in all the other states.

Personally I think magazine limits are beyond stupid and worthless. I guess I didn't come across right. It seems Glock is just kind of filling in blanks between other models here. I could buy a $12 grip extension/sleeve to go over G17 mags and run them in my gen 3 G19 and have almost the same thing. Ok, no tapered mag well...and sadly the State I'm currently living in is one of those stupid 8 with capacity limits so I couldn't legally purchase a G17 mag unless it had been pinned down to 15 rounds. Oddly enough there's a local gun shop selling standard capacity AR15 mags (30 round) pinned to 15. The pinning procedure is to drill a 1/8" hole and place an aluminum pop-rivet in it. You know, those aluminum rivet are very soft, tend to deform, break, work loose... Wonder if he'd similarly "prep/legalize" and sell me some G17 mags?
