Senators Demand Criminal Investigation of Trump ‘PissGate’ Dossier Author

Things are getting extremely interesting and the year is still young: as per a report via The Hill, two Republican Senators are now requesting Jeff Sessions’ Department of Justice to proceed with a criminal investigation into Trump ‘PissGate’ dossier author, a British fellow named Christopher Steeele. This guy received a lot of money (as in millions of dollars) from the Democratic National Committee and who knows whom else, to concoct a highly controversial and since-then discredited opposition research file, which whill remain history under the name of ‘PissGate Dossier’ on then-candidate Donald Trump. We just got word that Attorney General Jeff Sesssions’ second in command, i.e. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein received a letter from two prominent Republican Senators, Lindsey Graham and Chuck Grassley respectively, a letter which demands a DOJ investigation in order to clarify whether Christopher Steele (who is a former British intelligence spook by the way) lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other US federal authorities. Senator Grassley’s statement reads:

“I don’t take lightly making a referral for criminal investigation. But, as I would with any credible evidence of a crime unearthed in the course of our investigations, I feel obliged to pass that information along to the Justice Department for appropriate review. After reviewing how Mr. Steele conducted himself in distributing information contained in the dossier and how many stop signs the DOJ ignored in its use of the dossier, I believe that a special counsel needs to review this matter.”

Sessions was busy taking his nap after the chocolate milk and cookies he had consumed after approving his latest DARE posters for publication I guess.

Do you think comments like that make you look clever or something?

What will you look like then after the true facts become known?

The MSM should be investigated by psychiatrists to determine if many of them are sane or insane.

I’ll be surprised if Steele actually wrote the document. I figure he was paid to sign it and give it some bogus credibility. It was probably written by someone in Fusion.

And I don’t believe he was paid millions. He was probably paid thousands for what would amount to a couple hours work. The rest of the money? That’s the 12 million dollar question. Where did that money wind up. I figure, in the pockets of the very same people whose names keep popping up, laundered through Fusion.

Jeff says you got the wrong guy...I recused myself before I was sworn in. Even if he hadn’t recused the answer would still be no.

Why hasn’t President Trump labeled the AG “sleepy sessions”?

The DOJ can’t investigate. It would lead back to the CIA, FBI, British Intelligence, and the Republican and Democrat establishments. Well, it would until the pile of dead bodies blocked further investigation.

from reddit i read that there are two paths to a special prosecutor, the DOJ and Congress... If true, then Sessions’ approval is not (and shall not be) strictly necessary.

Congress gave up its ability to appoint a special prosecutor years ago. They could reauthorize the process, but the enabling law would be a long time in the making.

What seems to be being alleged is that Congress recommending a special prosecutor be appointed is, in this particular case, the moral equivalent of a special prosecutor being appointed. Presuming that your point is correct (? — but not knowledgeable either way at this moment), two ways in which I could envision that happening is if after the DOJ receives the request, then

1. (if the DOJ ignores or declines to appoint an independent prosecutor) Trump fires Sessions for not following Congress’ request(s) to appoint a special prosecutor, and appoints a replacement AG who will follow Congress’ request(s), on the premise that Sessions is not being respectful of Congress’ requests (or whatever) in regards to appointing a special prosecutor; or

2. the DOJ (i.e. Sessions) feels pressured under the prospect of being fired by Trump to appoint an independent prosecutor.

a variant of (1) is that Trump fires Sessions and then Rosenstein in rapid if Rosenstein were also to refuse to appoint an independent prosecutor. In theory, Trump could continue to fire AG line of succession until someone agreed to appoint an independent prosecutor or Trump gets another AG approved. This would give Trump an opportunity to clean house at the DOJ. At some point, someone in the AG line of succession would probably agree to appoint an independent prosecutor.

I am just guessing here, and my understanding might be wrong.

You have the possible process right, but a few Congressmen recommending a special counsel is not at all the same as ‘Congress’ doing it. Congress would due it as a resolution approved by majority vote.

NOTE: Be aware of Richard Nixon’s ‘Saturday Night Massacre’.

Yes, i see your point about being passed by Congress. Still that should be a given since the Repubs control both houses.

As for Nixon’s Saturday Night Massacre, yes, I have not forgotten that. I do however wonder if we are in a new era and if Trump is bound by the same rules of etiquette that Nixon was given that Trump is the alleged injured party in this case, not the alleged perp.
