We don’t have to go back a thousand years to find weaker alternatives though. We can go back three thousand, and compare against Hammurabi and Leviticus (even those of us who today champion their sentencing approach will hardly support their shoddy protections against false convictions).

I have 4 college degrees from accredited universities.

Same here. As far as Leviticus, He’s only seeing what was written. I’m sure they had a lot of customary law, which may have even differed from tribe to tribe. I would think that law was eventually distilled into the Talmud and the other commentaries.
