I enjoy my skates on the Rideau Canal and snowshoeing up in the Gatineau Hills.

“Ski jumping. All those stairs to the top!”

That’s right! And they have to walk up it and carry their own skis, I think.

What a pain.

As well as breaking arms, legs, backs, craniums, and one's bankbook. How does that compare with walking, jogging, or deer-huntingn?

Hmph.

I’ve gone skiing only once...not much exercise there...just squat and start accelerating until you get out of control and land on your butt.

You must not have skied a long time.

Biathlon, nothing better than doing some skiing and then shooting.

I think all winter sports should have shooting...like Figure Skating......pull off a Triple Lutz, then blast away!

Snowshoeing!

Cross country skiing is good too.

When I did my avalanche rescue course in the army, we spent 7 days in the back mountains around Jasper area, and we used skins on skis. We could ski uphill and the whole nine yards. We made our own snow huts to sleep in, and learned all about avalanches. Basically, if you’re caught in one, you’re screwed, it just took a week to learn it.

As for the Olympics, I don’t care, I don’t watch. I have far better things to do. I have three kids who need to learn horsemanship, shooting, and a wide variety of outdoor skills.

Biathlon.

The Finns used biathlon techniques to kick the crap out of the Russians for quite some time in 1940.

LOL! It snowed here, today, and it was beautiful to look at. But at my age, all I do is go outside, let it fall on my face for a few minutes; and THEN the fireplace, sitting by the picture window.

When I was younger, building snowmen and snowforts were my favorite winter sports (if you don’t count shoveling.)
