Watching the PBS Masterpiece series “Victoria”, the story also includes two handsome young men, one the secretary to Sir Robert Peel, the other who is a nobleman at the palace. It was obvious over the past few episodes that it was building up to something, just the way they interacted with each other. Sure enough: last week they shared a passionate kiss. Why was this necessary to the plotline?
It’s not. It’s done, I believe, for several reasons.
1. Titillating and unusual. This is why some people like scary movies or other weird genres. They like to be surprised and see odd stuff. It’s the “rubbernecking at an accident” thing.
2. Normalizing the activity. This is the social engineering “reason”.
3. They try to push the limits regarding sex. Straight sex has been done and overdone. They need something new. Enter homosexual relationships.
But I think the true evil is in number two. Not that the others get a pass.
