My wife has it now. She said that it was worse than childbirth & she’s had 6 kids!
I don't know how I deserved it, but I've had about ten kidney stone attacks, a dozen gall bladder attacks, dozens of Prinzmetal-Angina attacks, and shinglesfollowed by post-hepatic pain. In pain ratings, I'd put gall bladder attacks as the worst, followed closely by kidney stone attacks, then shingles then Prinzmetal-Angina. (Which mimics heart attacks).
Fortunately, my shingles was painless about 99% of the time; however, that 1% had me bent over in pain, and in tears! (Forehead to the left eye).
Shingles gave my eye iritis, which had to be treated with a visit to Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute. The medication (prednisolone) eventually put me into a sleep-deprivation mode, in which case, I'd prefer to be water-boarded!
I got the Zostavax vaccinationafter a necessary waiting period, and am looking forward to the newest vaccine.
Here's an important note for those of us who were previously vaccinated. The Mayo Clinic writes: "Shingrix is approved and recommended for people age 50 and older, including those who've previously received Zostavax."

BHT is said to cure shingles and other lipid coated viruses.
When I had shingles, I held a red heat lamp (like you can get at a hardware store), which is infrared light on it several times a day. I held it as close as possible, WITHOUT burning myself. In a week it was gone.

I put the infrared lamp close enough so that it felt like it was burning me, but just short of doing so. I held it there for several minutes, then pull it back, and did it over several times in a row.
At first it hurts more, if that was possible, for a short time, but then the pain was reduced tremendously. After doing this for a few days, several times a day, the more the better, it began to disappear. Soon it was gone. Within a week, except a little redness, it was basically gone.
The caveat of the whole thing, is not to actually burn oneself. There is a fine line between having the treatment be extremely effective with fairly intense infrared heat and overdoing the heat and actually hurting oneself. If anyone were to try it, they should definitely do it with extreme caution. I imagine, though, that a lesser, safer amount of heat may be effective, even if it took longer. Also, infrared heat is well documented to reduce pain.
I don't necessarily subscribe to all on this page about infrared light therapy, but it is informative and interesting:
