They would have to go for a pretty low price to get me to buy one. They are not expensice pistols to begin with which is the main reason they got the contract before. But now that Sig has striker fired pistols at a comparable price they did not stand a chance.
You are right, the Beretta did get the contract because of a lower bid.
Before that tho, they had won the tests. Finishing in a statistical tie with Sig and Smith & Wesson. Still the Beretta technically had fewer malfunctions.
The fact that the Beretta M9 is extremely reliable cannot be argued. It has been proven, both in the first tests conducted by the Air Force and later one by the Army.
The only pistol to ever finish tests with a perfect record was the 1911 Colt. Those test guns had been individually prepared by J.M. Browning. Overall tho it is probably not as reliable as those tests indicated.
