Hello...Possible reunification of Korea. Where is the media?

Odds are that Korea may be unified, or at least officially end the war that technically still has not ended since 1953.

There is very little coverage in the media. And the coverage is usually snarky, condescending, or dismissive of what has been accomplished.

Does anyone realize the significance of this? Even Reagan and Bush II, who were in the strongest positions to neutralize NK, has not accomplished what Trump did in 1.5 years in office.

NK is arguably the most repressive, evil, Stalinist regime in the world. They are finally coming to the negotiating table. Not sure if they will unify, but new CIA Director has already met Kim so there is optimism.

Amazing! Its been 70 years and all we get is crickets.
Surprised they converted the fall of the Berlin wall.
All the MSN does is lie or omit the truth.
They would burst into flames if they had to report anything Trump gets accomplished.

They could do a symbolic pseudo-reunification, but Kim will not give up any power or control voluntarily.

What will end up happening is a document being signed by Kim, the South Koreans and Trump....ending the Korean War. You can measure up everything accomplished by the eight years of Obama, and all of it together will not measure up to this one single moment.

So will start a dialog...step by step actions. Very limited in value.

Reunification? For the next ten years...no. But I do believe that Trump will step up and agree to move between a thousand and two-thousand troops out of South Korea within one-year. And by the third year after the treaty is signed...it’ll be just 10,000 US troops left there.

The Nobel Peace Prize will go to Kim and the South Korean President...not Trump. But I suspect that Kim might shock the Prize committee by refusing to come unless his ‘good friend’ Donald is included on the award. At that point, all of us will start laughing over fraud by the prize committee.

The South Koreans are stuck in a unique position when unification talks finally occur....they have to invent a title and position (with power) for Kim.

I think we arranged this with China and Russia to get their ok.

The question is, what was in it for them? What guarantees did we give them vis-a-vis future US presence on the peninsula?

They won’t talk about it because Trump really helped bring it about.
I think it is best that they don’t anyway.
MAGA means results positive for America, not glory for Trump.
I think the President would agree.
I sure sleep better with him in that office.

China gets little to nothing out of this reunification business....in fact, this would trigger a bigger economic player in the region. So I think China’s attitude would be a 20-year long path to reunification...way down the road.

Does any world leader think that President Trump will cower in fear and worry about diplomacy if he feels he needs to use military force?

The entire world is seeing what a true leader looks like.

His speech to the leaders of the world when he addressed the UN was one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard. He told them they needed to put the interests of their people first. They have a duty to their people.

And that is what he is doing. Unlike most politicians, Trump did not pursue political office to enrich himself. For him it was a step down in terms of convenience and opulent living. He actually made a sacrifice to serve as president. When has that even happened before? It is historic.

The Media are all off to a retreat, sponsored by the Clinton Foundation, to brainstorm ways to have credit for any positive outcomes in the Korea peninsula assigned to Obama and Secretaries of State Clinton and Kerry.

There is a bluidy big difference between officially ending the war and unifying the two nations

a massive difference

There is no way the two Koreas will be reunited in the next decade. China and the USA have to agree and even more so, the two nations needs to agree -- they are utterly different today, even the language is diverting (though still not diverged) and physically Norks are nearly half a foot shorter, complete prisoner mindset etc.

as to even ending the war, Fatty Kim and his dad and grandad are well known for making statements to get aid only to change them a day later.

“There is very little coverage in the media”

You are watching the wrong media.

What Trump has done has been very, very good. But you can't compare his position to Reagans (you can compare it to Bush II

Trump has two advantages:

  1. The Nork think he is crazy enough to launch a war against them -- they didn't expect Bush or Obama (ha ha ha) to do so

  2. CHINA realizes that Trump will deal and reduce the pressure on them (trade war) in return for Kim to leave Nork

this is to Trump's credit yes and perhaps Reagan wouldn't have been able to do this, but Reagan didn't have the same conditions (since remember that the Soviet Union still existed)

I can measure up everything accomplished by Obama and it will not measure up to Trump's first week....

And I'm saying that when I try to look at things non-partisan. Obama had negative accomplishments (Afghanistan, Izlamik State, destruction of the US medical system etc.) - he was such a waste, such an utter waste

I wish the Republican party had run Condaleeza Rice against him in 2008.

What China wants in Korea is the US presence to be gone.

Removing US troops is also a win for the USA - less costs. Also, China isn't going to invade a new Korea - they prefer keeping them as a vassal state

That, plus the carrot of Trump not committing to an all-out trade war will keep the Chinese happy

As to the Russians, or rather Putin, that's a mystery. Russia has far, far less influence over Nork than the Chinese do (similar to US versus UK influence over the Philippines), so Putin may have been told by Xi to shut up on this. Also perhaps Trump said "Ok, Ukraine remains in your sphere of influence, in exchange for this"

The Russian thin g is pure speculation on my part.
