WHEN A UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCES TRUE HATE SPEECH
SeeThruEdu ^ | May 1, 2018 | George Leef

We hear so much these days about “hate speech” on campus that it’s almost a shock to find the real thing. Leftists have taken to calling almost any argument against their belief system “hate speech” such that, for example, Christina Hoff Sommers is denounced for hate speech because she does not agree with radical feminists that there is a “rape culture” on most of our college campuses.

But following the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush, we got a dose of true hate speech from a professor at Fresno State University. Randa Jarrar teaches creative writing at the school and took to Twitter to let the world know how she felt about Mrs. Bush. Jarrar wrote that she was “an amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal.” She also let us know that she’s “glad the witch is dead.”

That’s nasty, hateful stuff. It’s the sort of vitriolic speech we so often hear from fringe academics who think that venting their rage is good educational practice.

Fresno State’s president, Joseph Castro, was evidently worried that Jarrar’s tweet would undermine support among conservative alums and (quoted here), said that she had “transcended free speech” because what she said was “disrespectful.”

Disrespectful it certainly was, but it is not the case that all speech by college professors must be respectful. It’s better if they express their views in a polite manner, but free speech implies the liberty to choose your words, whether they’re inoffensive or vicious.

Writing here for the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, lawyer Akil Alleyne concludes that action by the university to punish Jarrar would probably fail when challenged in court.

Face reality. There no longer exists common values or a reasonable social consensus in this country. The Left has tightly embraced hedonistic debauchery in all its ramifications. The Right remains committed and grounded in the Judeo-Christian ideal and the culture it produced. Sadly there will be blood.

“Randa Jarrar teaches ‘creative writing’.”

I bet she does.

“There no longer exists common values or a reasonable social consensus in this country.”

so.

people either are part of solution or they are part of the problem.

each person gets to choose and then choose to act accordingly. Those sitting idoly by, or just whining about it have made their choice of action or inaction.

So the excuse is that since it might fail we don’t try and just let them steamroll us... when has this ever stopped the left?

Ward Churchill got fired from the University of Colorado. He had tenure. It did take several years after lawsuits and appeals to become final. Anyone can get fired. The only truly irreplaceable people are today’s obituaries.

It’s a function of time + money. Want to get rid of someone quickly? Lotsa money. Want to get rid of someone cheap. Lotsa time to build the “progressive discipline” case.

“There no longer exists common values or a reasonable social consensus in this country.”

Peaceful coexistence with these people is not possible. They prove it every day.

Prepare accordingly.

I am constantly observing that those Leftist Twits are constantly prattling on about their rights. The thing that stands out to me is that they seem to always ignore the fact that with all rights, there is also responsibility.

George Leef, the author is taking the GWB approach to this issue.

GWB allowed our military, of which he was CIC, to be savaged by the press because it was too hard to stand up to those who were attacking.

“Barbarism is the absence of standards to which appeal can be made.” Jose Ortega y Gasset

We are reverting to the kind of ‘barbarism’ we are supposed to have ended, so long ago.

The people with the most ‘visibility’ in our society are competing with one another to gain the title of ‘most offensive’ ...’most outrageous’, etc. All-so they can be REGARDED as, and to think of themselves AS non-conformist.

Too bad guys! Conforming to ‘non-conformity’ is conforming JUST THE SAME!!

I guess they forgot (if they ever knew) hot to be individuals.

He ends his column with this “but its administrators should learn that they should be more circumspect about the people they hire for the faculty”.

Why should they, there is no incentive to be more circumspect.

There is a “Rape Culture” on College Campuses. It’s the Professors who are tenured that “Rape” the students of their free will and thought, and remove their common sense forcefully and reduce the students to nothing more than drones. They are empty headed and brainless robots.

99 percent of administration and faculty at the University shared the vile sentiments of the “professor”. They just know better than to express it publicly. The only concern for the University was monetary. How the consevative donors would be affected if they did nothing, versus liberal donors if they canned her her. Their bottom line was “legally, it’s too complicated to fire her.” If it had been one of the rare conservative professors saying something vile about obama when he was president, they would’ve been gone overnight. And the University would have a long list of legal reasons to justify it. Ideology + money = outcome. Same old formula.

Nobody has to take her class and the Dean of her department can drop her courses for budget reasons. She can be made to go away. If nobody signs up for her class it will be easy to drop it and her from the curriculum.
