Companies Are Distancing From Gun Owners — But Warren Buffett

Refuses to Let Politics Run His Business
Billionaire Warren Buffett stood his ground when it comes to his company, Berkshire Hathaway, continuing to do business with gun owners, saying that his personal political beliefs aren't imposed on his company.

Business Insider reported that during a meeting with Berkshire Hathaway's shareholders, CNBC anchor Andrew Ross Sorkin relayed a question, which asked why Buffett's businesses would continue to work with gun manufacturers when it's contrary to his own beliefs.

“I do not believe in imposing my political opinions on the activities of our businesses, and if we get into what companies are pure and which ones aren't pure, I think it is very difficult to make that call,” Buffett explained.

Buffett acknowledged that he's shared his own personal beliefs about gun control but reiterated that it doesn't reflect Berkshire Hathaway or its subcompanies' policies.

“I don't think that we should have a question on the GEICO policyholder form, 'are you an NRA member?'” he said. “You know, if you are you just aren't good enough for us.”

Following the Parkland, Florida, shooting, various companies have distanced themselves from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and gun manufacturers.

Dick's Sporting Goods announced that it would no longer sell “assault-style” guns, and Walmart decided to raise the minimum age to purchase firearms and ammunition from 18 to 21.

Other companies cut ties with the NRA by terminating its discount program for the organization's members.

In the wake of the shooting, Buffett told CNBC's “Squawk Box” that although he believes in increased gun control, he doesn't believe in “imposing my views on 370,000 employees and a million shareholders.”

“I'm not their nanny on that,” he explained.

He encouraged people as private citizens to speak out about what they believe in but said as a company, they should remain neutral.

“I don't think that Berkshire should say we're not going to do business with people who own guns,” he said. “I think that would be ridiculous.”

Video at link. Even though Buffet is a typical gazzilionaire who believes in "sensible" gun control, and he's not too fond of Pres. Trump he didn't get to where he is today by not being fully mindful that even a wild animal never sh!ts where they eat.

I hope other companies wake up and follow suit. The media platforms too.

The standard should be legal or illegal, period.

While I don’t agree at all with Buffet’s liberal, one-worlder, view of things, you cannot take away from him the fact that he is a brilliant businessman.

Of course, it doesn’t take an Einsteinian intellect to figure out that your won’t do so well in business if you piss off half of your customers (which is what you’ll do by taking pretty much ANY stance on ANY controversial issue), but I’m nonetheless glad to see Buffet take this stance.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never could figure out how segregation could ‘work’...
If YOU don’t want me around or spending my money on your product, I will abide by your decision.
If in the business of MAKING money one must (well should) remember that money is GREEN and it shouldn’t bother one a wit what color the hand is that gives it to one.

I would like to think the Libs ‘overplayed’ their hand by OPENLY going after gun owners.

I am sure there are plenty of Ds/Libs/Socialists and their ilk that are VERY HAPPY to be able to own and possess weapons and if really informed about the D Pols intentions, they would at least vote against them in upcoming elections.

I am not looking for a ‘conversion’ but at least some common sense.

The old ‘just depends whose ox is being gored comes into mind’.

REMEMBER...EVERYONE pleases EVERYONE, some by entering a room and some by leaving it.

...

I bet NRA members have a much lower claim rate. They are certainly more law abiding than non members.

Buffett is a crony capitalist who should be in prison for his actions perpetrating the fraudulent mortgage securities ratings. His grandstanding with Obama and the lies about his taxes are also inexcusable.

I agree with this particular statement, but he remains a lying, felonious, scumbag.

True. Why do the rich so hate innocent babies? The depths of depravity have no bottom.
