The founders of Novo Mesto must not have been very imaginative when it comes to picking a name. It means "New Place."

The Ohio Republican politician George Voinovich (1936-2016) was half-Slovenian by descent.

I have been through parts of Slovenia by train or bus--all very scenic. Haven't been to Lake Bled but have visited the Postojna cave--I think it is the largest cave in Europe, or the second-largest. The last Bourbon king of France, Charles X (reigned 1830-1836), is buried in Slovenia.

Oops. I should have said Charles X reigned 1824-1830. He fled during the Revolution of 1830 and died in 1836.
