Do you like a onion and cheddar sandwich? Pork pie? *shudder* We found an amazing Indian restaurant in Nottinghamshire ( rather rough town really )which had the best food we were to find on our three week trip ( other than breakfast ) I had the WORST time trying to find food that didn’t revolt me in England. Seriously. I was ready to eat American dirt and be grateful.

Love grilled cheese sandwiches. Hold the onion, though. Pork pie sounds like it could be good, depending on how it's done. I've never tasted or even smelled any Indian food that I would dare go near again. And I was once married to a woman of East Indian descent (Guayanna). Couldn't stand that curry. Made her promise she'd never cook with it in the house. She didn't cook all that much anyway. But whenever we ate at her relatives' houses, and that was too often, IMO, I was forced to eat the stuff. Nice people, in any case. Just hated their food with a passion.

I had the WORST time trying to find food that didn’t revolt me in England.

There's a McDonald's on the Strand! At least there used to be. The restored Globe Theatre is on Bankside, near the Tate Modern museum, and there are a lot of affordable restaurants there on the south bank of the Thames. Also, if you can find restaurants operated by ethnic Italians or Chinese, that food will taste good.

I went to the Ritz for high tea, but was not impressed.

The British Museum is not to be missed. It is like a world culture tour.

If you like authentic English or Scottish tartan items like mufflers, flat caps, kilts and throws, and little heraldry items like your British family crest on mugs and coasters, etc. there is "Highland Store on Portobello Road near the British Museum. My first tartan mufflier lasted 30 years and would have lasted more, except I lost it. My family has been passing down a Harris Tweed coat that was purchased in 1935, and still looks great.

In the theatre district, if you like opera, this restaurant on Drury Lane was decadently awesome and the food was good:

Sarastro
It has playfully soft porn paintings in the toilets, so don't take the kids.
