While I agree in general, perhaps there is a smoking gun. Perhaps an investigation is going to uncover that Obama’s order to surveil Trump went further back, when he was bringing up the birth certificate issue and had not even announced his candidacy for president.
If that is the case, it would be a pretty big deal.

Agree. There’s nothing about Zullo’s investigation. But here is the key:

Why *would* Zullo’s Inbox start getting pummeled? Seems very coincidental for there to be no connection at all.
Of course somebody was checking up up on Zullo and Arpaio's communications, as well as lots of others!
But that wouldn't reasonably be part of the probe President Trump requested this past Monday, however. Trump would have wanted to verify whether the Obama Administration was surveilling his exploratory presidential campaign in early 2011 and whether the DOJ/FBI will actually fess up to all that, not in any way to probe whether they were sniffing around Zullo/Arpaio's rear ends.
If Trump wanted to see what some Snowden-kind of kid was being tasked to consider, he could have asked Pompeo for a characterization of the records. This, BTW, I expect he did long ago. By asking the DOJ/FBI to do this probe, he wants to see whether they're going to come up with the records to which Trump knows they have access and if they don't match what Pompeo knows, dey gonna be in rilly deeeeep dooo dooo!
It may show how deep the corruption goes and more names of those that need to be rooted out and fired.

Yes, in 2011 citizen, businessman, democrat donor Donald J. Trump started coming out vociferously about the birther issue.
Why did Mr. Trump do this?
My research of his history shows Donald Trump from the time he was a youngster, from the time his Daddy taught him gratitude for our nation’s military. from the time he spent with the workers who were WWII veterans on his father’s construction projects, from the years he spent in the NY Military Academy, that he has always been and is and always will be fervent, without ever wavering, passionately pro-military.
Donald Trump is as pro-military, pro-America as one can get.
What he saw in Obama was a fraud, a person who had an anti-American agenda.
Donald Trump was in all his years in constant communication with veterans, with military at all levels, military folks knew you could have no better friend than Donald Trump. They told him about Obama and the Birth Certificate issue, about all the facts, details, subversive acts that covered up Obama’s real past. Trump knew instinctively like so many of us that Obama was shady at best and likely a covert traitor.
As soon as Donald Trump came out publicly about Obama and the birth certificate issue, the Obama camp descended on him. Trump was also hinting at running for President. Obama was always known, even when running for state senator, to spy and break privacy laws to get material on his opponents. It is a given that Obama did the same to Donald Trump starting around 2011.
We can infer there are yet DOJ ad FBI deep state Obama networks that are aware evidence exists showing ‘investigations’ into Donald Trump and the birth certificate issue.
Zullo said in his radio appearance that the people calling/emailing him about the birth certificate issue KNEW PERSONAL THINGS THAT ONLY ZULLO COULD KNOW, that could only be known if his conversations and emails were being monitored. By implication, that means there are still Obama agents in the deep state that can listen in on Zullo.
FURTHER, Zullo stated these persons wanted his work product and at the same time they were asking Zullo’s co-investigators for work product in a bid to find out how Zullo was able to pull it off.
FURTHER AGAIN, Zullo revealed that one of the scanned pages of birth certificate documents had a ‘smudge’ with a discernable fingerprint.
