Courts sometimes earn their contempt. The whole point of Joe Average serving on a jury and being responsible for determining guilt or innocence and in some cases nullifying a charge based on the jurors own sense of justice, is to prevent courts and governments from running roughshod over the public.
That a UK court would put someone in jail for a year, no trial, no jury, and then demand the public shut up is a sign of a government that is corrupt and unaccountable.

It is far past time where people in power need to be held accountable for their actions both in the United States and the UK.
