The argument has been that Ashkenazi Jews in the diaspora have never been satisfied to commit themselves to the culture in which they have settled. Rather, just as the Jews who worshiped the Golden Calf in the Sinai they want to change the world in search of something amorphous, something better. It is why they were such an easy target in Europe when Hitler came to power.
The problems with falling away and those ( fewer) who descend into becoming active enemies of God, Church, Christian/Jewish people is serious in most Biblicsl faith traditions its definitely a serious problem in Ashkhanazi Judaism but it exists in the Roman Catholic Church and a number of Protestant denominations too. - falling away is one thing, becoming a hostile, enemy, attacker is yet another. Hard to fathom ( the active enemy type Catholic or Protestant or jew. Very hard to understand
