ROBERTSDALE, AL (WALA) - Baldwin County has landed another manufacturer from outside the US. Canada-based AdvanTec Marine will be setting up shop in Robertsdale. AdvanTec manufactures closures and fittings for yachts and ships and this will be their first facility in the southeast US.
The company plans to hire 46 workers and AdvanTec will be putting out an annual payroll of nearly two and a half million dollars. Most of the jobs are high-paying, skilled labor jobs.
Very soon, an empty warehouse in the Robertsdale Industrial Park will be a thriving business once again. It’s been vacant since Hydrotech Industries downsized. AdvanTec will be a perfect fit for the building which is already outfitted with a crane system and metal shop.
“This is a great opportunity for us to use an existing facility instead of going to a green field project to continue to use the assets we have here and make the most bang for your buck that we can,” said Baldwin County commissioner, Tucker Dorsey.
The company’s products include hatches, doors, fittings and other specialty steel components.
“They were looking for a location along the Gulf of Mexico where they could set up a manufacturing plant so they could save on shipping cost coming out of Oregon on their product lines,” explained Robertsdale mayor, Charles Murphy.
It will be their first facility outside of Canada and the northeast US. Much of their business is with yacht manufacturers in south Florida and other shipbuilders along the gulf coast so the move here is a strategic one.
AdvanTec is already in the first phase of its hiring process and will be continuing to hire more after the first group of employees is trained at other facilities.
“They’re going to do an annual payroll of close to two point five million dollars annually as they start up and we could foresee something in the future where that number’s going to go even higher as they establish themselves in this market,” Murphy said.
That’s because the hope is for expansion and with the skilled marine industry laborers in our area, there’s certainly the workforce to make that happen. A company spokesperson said they hope to be shipping product out of the Robertsdale location by the end of April.

A good buddy of mine from Charlevoix Mi. owns a manufacturing plant in the Chicago area where they make all types of hinges for assorted applications. His Continuous Hinges are used on Sea Ray Boats for their hatches and access doors.
