Strictly speaking it was the British and not the Canadians.

You know your history. A special force of all British troops were shipped from England. The Canadians were a British colony. Some Canadians were none to happy with that, but certainly feared American expansion. The British then burned the White House in a retaliation for American incursions into Ontario.

So glad myself that the Treaty of Ghent 1815,in neutral Belgium, let wiser heads prevail.
