My guess is that Levin, like many fence sitters, is nervous and fearful. Fence sitters are nervous that Trump will fail at negotiations and a trade war will ensue, which they believe (probably correctly) will torpedo the economy and Trump and Republicans.
They are not nervous and fearful of de-regulation. They are not nervous and fearful at tax cuts. Those are traditional gospel. But Trump’s statements on trade are heresy. And conservatives like Levin, and most on talk radio, and in Congress, have no concept of strategy and tactics other than get big donations and buy ads at election time.
They have no concept that people actually vote on reality and not on TV ads.
Nice spin but the trade war started at Bretton Woods 70 + years ago.
Like Victor Davis Hanson has pointed out many times, people like Levin are never going to have their jobs outsourced to Vietmam or Malaysia. They are never impacted by the ramifications of the policies they espouse.
