Can you explain that?
Wonderful story and a clever way to outwit yourself! Funny how we can find creative ways to get untrapped.
I quit smoking that way- sorta. I started with the premise that I knew I couldn’t quit. But, I wanted to see how long I COULD go without a cigarette. At any time I could have lit one, but would say...nahhh..gone 8 hours, can I go 9? Before I knew it...3 days, a week, months.
I like Peterson, I especially appreciate the effect he’s having on young people.
The article was worth reading, will pray for that young man now as well.
Encouraging.
My suggestion would be to pick an amount of time, and don’t make it too large, I’d start with 15 minutes, maybe 10, or seven even, and work on your grant writing that much time per day. Some days, once you’ve started you’ll want to work more. That’s fine. But work on it every day for some minimum amount of time.
If all you do is sit at your desk and think about it, that’s fine.
Flylady wrote her book “Sink Reflections” https://www.amazon.com/Sink-Reflections-Overwhelmed-Disorganized-Discover/dp/0553382179/ref=tmm_pap_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1529275483&sr=8-1 in 15 minute increments.
All of those archeological sites in the ME became burried due to lack of dusting over the years. The dust never stops accumulating.
That’s what I find inside my head anyway.
Serotonin, Baby!
LMAO.
Well, look at it like this.
A room that's perfectly dust-free, contains zero dust, will have a much greater chance of having dust come in from outside than it will of dust coming out from inside (the latter probability would be zero, or impossible).
A room that's completely filled with massive amounts of dust, including floating in the air as well as clinging to every surface, would have a much greater chance of having dust going from inside to outside than the opposite.
Somewhere in between those two extremes, there is an equilibrium dust density in the room; at this amount of dustiness, the amount of dust that (on the average) randomly swirls out of the room will equal the amount that (on the average) swirls in. That's what I meant by "establishing an equilibrium."
I throughly enjoyed that post!
I quit smoking by buying a non-smoker term life insurance policy. I also told myself that I could start smoking again when I reached 70 because it takes 20 years to kill you and I don’t expect to live to 90 anyway. That was a long time ago. The policy has long since expired, so I tried a cigarette and I hated it.
This is my approach these days. I can’t recall where I read it, but “anybody can do anything for ten minutes’’.
Set yourself ten minutes at a time for boring jobs you keep procrastinating. In a while, you’ll become involved and won’t stop at ten minutes.
I’m trying it for decluttering my packrat house. Pick a small space. Pick another small space tomorrow, while keeping the first one clutter free...
