“Will be arriving in Portland first. Any suggestions?”

Avoid Portland.

Joseph’s by the Sea is a slightly pricey restaurant, but it’s usually a good, reliable choice. Seafood and more.

Bob’s Clam Hut. There’s one in Kittery, which we’ve been to and enjoyed, and one in Portland.

In Portland

Haven’t been there in a while. Check if J’s Oyster Bar is still operating. On the docks, cheesy looking but a really great place.

Caddis the ancient one

We always stop at D’Amato’s deli in Portland (on the way to Tenants Harbor) every summer - just to buy their heroes for supper. They claim to have invented it.

Watching this thread closely.
The wife and I will be there in mid-July on the motorcycle. Plan on spending some time riding that area, including Old Orchard, and then catching the ferry out of Portland over to Yarmouth, NS. Riding from there to Halifax for a night and then on back thru New Brunswick to Maine.

I live there, you have a lot to choose from. OOB is cleaned up a lot, much nicer now. Almost every place near the water will have good fresh seafood. Spend the day walking in the old port, too many restaurants to choose from. Make a day of going to Booth Bay Harbor. Save your money and buy lobsters from places that sell them live, some places will cook them for you for free. Restaurant will charge you $29.95 for twin lobsters with corn, you can get the same thing at Pine Tree Seafood in OOB for $12 without the corn. Enjoy.:)

And as others have said, avoid Lewiston, it's Black Hawk down in the parks now.

New Harbor is great. We’ve stayed at Thompsons cottages. Across the inlet is Shaws indoor outdoor seafood and fresh lobster right off the boats. Outdoor dining has a firehose for cleanup.

Watching .... Hubs was let go in a mass firing 2 weeks ago. I’ve been out (of an actual, real job) since 2009. NOTHING in the Albany NY area anymore, Portland is is our short list for moves, since it’s got a lot of employment activity. We’ll be taking a short trip up there in a week or two, to check it out.

You have to take a trip to Freeport to the LlBean home store. It’s fascinating to see a town turn itself into outlet mall.

Downtown Portland, the Old port is good for an afternoon.

Royal River grill house in Yarmouth is a great place for a high end lunch after you drive up ta Beans in Freeport. The Harrasseeket Inn in Freeport usually has a good lunch too.

Portland has turned into a tiresome destination with hordes of homeless. Worth about an afternoon in the old Port. Don’t miss Abacus Art Gallery and Gift shop on Exchange Street.

Kennebunkport is sweeter, and you get the same ambiance without the human waste.

OOB has a great little moderately priced restaurant right on the drag called The Bell Buoy. Nothing fancy but good food.

Ken’s Place Seafood Restaurant.

Half-way between Portland and Old Orchard.

Great fried clams in heavy batter.

I lived near Portland for 27 years, and just moved to MA last year. Not to be missed: Portland Head Light, inside Fort Williams, Cape Elizabeth. Spectacular views of Casco Bay from the most photographed lighthouse in the country.

Lobster Shack at 2 Lights, Cape Elizabeth.

Walk around Kennebunkport, and Portland’s Old Port. Tons of restaurants. My favorite was Fore Street.

I know a lot of businesses in southern Maine. If you let me know what Hubs is looking for, maybe I can point you in the right direction.
