“What was one house lot is now subdivided into 3 or 4 townhome/skyrise dwellings 2-4 stories tall per house.”
Yep, it’s called ‘infill’ here. Tear down a shack on a 1/3 acre lot and build 3 or 4 skinny, 3 story units, and then charge over $500k for each with a shared driveway and tiny garage.
I can’t say that I really blame the politicians for pushing it...if the people are stupid enough to buy them, so be it.
I live inside the Loop in the 77025 zip code.
Every house around me that is sold gets torn down and replaced by a huge mansion, and when I say huge, they are over 5000 SF on a lot 60 feet wide. They have over 3 times the SF my 1950s-era house has. One neighbor has an actual movie theater in his house. WTF?
The only way we could afford the area was to buy a teardown and not tear it down. Our house was only 10% of the total price. The land was 90%.
Houston has too many newcomers, both Mexican and northerner. I don’t like it.
