She won because she is Hispanic

The New York Times staff was stunned when Democratic Congressman Joe Crowley lost his primary. They never saw it coming, and when he lost, they got it wrong again.

"Crowley’s Loss Heralds an ‘End of an Era’: Last of the Party Bosses" read the headline.

This was not a rebuke of party bosses. This was not a reform. This was simple arithmetic.

Larry Sabato got it wrong, too. He told the Times, "Political machines have been on the decline almost everywhere for decades, and that process has accelerated. Crowley is a perfect example. He grew up in another time and another way of doing business."

Baloney. Sabato cannot see what is plainly in front of his eyes. He is a numbers man, and yet he ignored the key to Crowley's District 14 in New York: its demographics. The district is 49.80% Hispanic, 18.41% Non-Hispanic White, 16.24% Asian, 11.39% Black, and so on.

Do the math. A Hispanic candidate has three times the likelihood of winning in that district than a non-Hispanic white person has.

This is what New York City politics has always been about: ethnicity. Fiorello LaGuardia won the mayor's race in the depth of the Depression not because he was a Republican but because he was Italian-American. He became the city's first Italian-American mayor because so many Italian-Americans voted for him.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won because she is Hispanic. The Hispanics in the district looked around and voted for one of their own. Ethnic groups and black people do that.

The Times story went on for more than 1,300 words. Hispanic did not appear once. That's odd since liberals keep saying Republicans must appeal to Hispanic voters.

Citing the wrong reason for her victory was deliberate. Liberals want to push the narrative that socialism is coming!

"There’s an Easy Answer to Why Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Won: Socialism," the Intercept reported.

That is nonsense. Hispanics largely voted for her because she is Hispanic. Socialists have been great at recruiting frontmen for minority groups. She is just the latest.

The reason Cortez won: she's Hispanic. She's also a Socialist but she won 'cause she's Hispanic.

Yep, they couldn’t resist the power of her name, which she’ll play to the hilt.
Many who voted for her probably didn’t even know she was socialist, but it didn’t matter anyway, it was vote for her or Evil White Man.

She’s going to do absolutely nothing but line her pockets but I guess the NYC voters need 20 billion examples of that before they wake up.

Larry sabato stopped being right twenty years ago. He has been living off bis reputation for years. Fortunately he is mostly wrong.

Sooner or later, the district would elect a Hispanic, but it looks like Ocasio-Cortez did better in Queens than in the Bronx.

Some Hispanics in the Bronx stuck with Crowley, the old White guy, while Ocasio-Cortez did very well among upscale gentrifying White liberals in Queens.

This is just the primary. But Democrats usually win in the fall in NYC.

“Larry Sabato got it wrong, too.”

Sabato is wrong every time he opens his liberal mouth.

I suspect that there was something else going on that resulted in her winning. Didn’t I read the other day that polling done a scant a week or two ahead of the election had Crowley well out in front?

The Spanish speaking people colonizing our country want their own representatives.
The Democrat party will be surprised when they are displaced by the La Raza party.

Democrats have convinced themselves that they’ll be able to control Hispanics as a voting block by giving them amnesty - then keeping them by promising them stuff.

It doesn’t look like they’ll fall in line and vote for the dems ‘carrot on a stick’ routine.

She is also pretty, well-spoken, tech and media-savvy...and stirs cocktails for a living. She knows how to work people at the bar to get tips. Her views are wholly misguided but let’s not pretend she’s not gifted...instead of desperately trying to catch her in a scandal, better to engage with her on her socialism and have her debate a formidable conservative peer on the issues. Charlie Kirk has invited her to debate for example.

And conservatives have nothing to gain by joining the Dems in the endless trap/cycle of demographic identity politics. Then you are playing the game on their terms. Is that all conservativism means to you?

Well, we also need to be wise and get Conservative, appealing candidates into the mix. Dah.

Not doing what is necessary, apart from compromising what we believe, is not a virtue. In a situation like this we need to run wonderful, Conservative candidates. The Bible calls us to be as wise as a serpent, but gentle as a dove. We really to bone up on the wise part.

Debate will be wasted on this one. She’s not changing her mind. And her soon to be constituents aren’t changing theirs either.
