Never saw a homeless person the entire time we lived in California (1960-74) and would’ve been amazed if I had. This is how different it was: As a toddler my father took me on an errand to K-Mart in Santa Ana and left me on a horse ride outside the store. He forgot me and went home. The people kept putting nickels into the machine until he returned, chastised by my mother, to get me.
