I too have been thinking about this for many years. I now exclusively use Independence Day rather than “Forth of July”, as “Forth of July” is as meaningless as “1st of the month”.

I like to use the phrase “Independence Day.” It reminds me of my grandmother. I grew up hearing that and “Armistice Day.” Oh, and we got weather prognostications rather than forecasts. Takes me back.

Indeed. I use Independence Day whenever possible.

After all, the French don’t have “the 14th” or “the 14th of July”!

Just like saying happy holidays verses merry christmas. Just more desensitizing the masses. This is the equal of making the Fourth of July the equal of Sicko (sic) d’ Mayo.
