How often was Neil Gorsuch’s name floated around before his pick? If memory serves, all the media kept saying it was between Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman, and that ended up being right.

True, I went back in archives at FR and looked. As announcement got closer Gorsuch & Hardiman were the final two names that came up again and again, before that the final 5 were Pryor and a couple others that got shot down. It seemed the more anti-contender comments that were on here, the less likely they were chosen. Pryor for instance, once his name popped up on final 5, a little more in depth comments on here and other sources, he started to get shot down. So just by looking at comments right now, I would say Kavanaugh and perhaps Barret aren’t gonna make it. That leaves Kethledge & Thapar as non-controversial choices. So my guess at this point is one of those two, leaning toward Kethledge for his experience on the bench. We will see Monday. But I think Kavanaugh will be the ceremonial runner-up to whoever is chosen.
