The rescue mission began after rain showers soaked the Tham Luang Cave area in northern Chiang Rai province for the past 24 hours, heightening the risks in what the governor has called a war with water and time to save the team....
Weather.com forecast sustained thunderstorms lasting through Sunday and Monday, with further stormy weather expected for around the next two weeks....
To escape, the children must dive through dark, narrow passageways sometimes no more than two-feet wide, that have challenged some of the worlds leading cave divers. A former member of Thailands SEAL unit died during a dive on Thursday night.... ADDED: More information, with excellent graphics at BBC:

Thanks for info.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I thought something might be up when Trump tweeted about it this morning. I believe that some of the foreign divers are Americans. Maybe Navy Seals.
People ask why did the coach and kids go into the cave. I think it's a dumb question. People, especially males, get an adrenalin rush exploring things and doing things that might be a little dangerous.
I almost lost my life years ago by taking a long solo hike in the woods as a snowstorm was bearing down. Someday I will write a full story on that and post it here. But basically I misjudged how quickly the snowstorm would move in and found myself miles from the trailhead in near zero visibility when it hit. The trail markers were quickly obscured by wet snow. This was before cellphones but I had a compass and knew I had to go east. So eventually I stumbled onto the main road and was able to find my way to my car - which I then had to shovel out. It could have ended very badly. I'm glad I didn't have to have rescuers to come looking for me.
I wonder what went through the minds of these kids during those days of total darkness before rescuers found them. They must have thought they were all going to die there. The coach evidently did a good job holding them together and keeping their spirits up.
I was not aware of that, thank you for the education.
