For more than nine months, House Republicans have been battling the Department of Justice and FBI for a cache of documents they say are necessary to conduct oversight investigations into the FBI’s handling of alleged collusion between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia. The backroom battles between lawmakers and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein culminated in impeachment articles filed Wednesday against the deputy attorney general.
The lawmakers did so despite objections by Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) who said to reporters Thursday, “Do I support impeachment of Rod Rosenstein? No, I do not.”
“I don’t think we should be cavalier with this process or with this term,” he said.

If they were serious the impeachment bill would have been introduced and passed months ago, not days before the House leaves on vacation.
So what’s the concept here. To convict we need 2/3 of the Senate. How do we get 16 or so democrats to vote for impeachment?

Seems like an impeachment attempt that fails will look like veneration.

Nothing is going to happen until Ryan is gone, as a minimum. He will make sure that this never comes to a vote or goes down badly. Ryan needs to be severely motivated to resign now and not come back from the Summer break - but how? Follow the money? Family vulnerabilities?
This is all a dog and pony show. The House recesses 30 days. It goes nowhere.
By letting Rosenstein skate in his acts of defiance, Congress has lost its oversight authority across the board.
Maybe it can still pass legislation, but the courts are moving in to that territory.
There is a fourth branch of government now - the DOJ.
How about for refusing to comply with Congressional subpoenas and covering up knowledge and/or coordination with foreign agents to interfere with an election?
