Everything about the incident smells to me like a high-level Federal Agency informant who turned on his handlers and gave them the ultimate "take this job and shove it" notice.

It is quite possible that Paddock connected with some ISIS people for help with the send-off. ISIS did in fact claim to be responsible, for what ever that might be worth.

I would doubt very much that the Government wants any further public investigation of the matter.

Look for some quiet Government pressure on the Mandalay Bay principles to "pay up, shut up, and go away".

Maybe. My first instinct was that the guy was running weapons and/or laundering money for some kind of foreign actors -- either with or without Federal agency oversight.
