To be sure, among that sub-population of people who are mentally ill, but still somewhat functional and able to take care of themselves outside an institutional setting, the vast majority are liberals. No doubt about that.

I think maybe the truly mentally-ill members of the Left is less than a majority; maybe one-quarter, maybe one-third.

Of course, it's hard to tell because the definition of mental illness is constantly changing and subdividing. People with schizoaffective disorder, people on the Asperger's spectrum, people who suffer from clinical depression, mostly identify as "liberals" to the extent that they have any political interest, I have no doubt.

There is no relation of cause to effect anywhere in that ideology.
