Thats why its so hard to go from Senate to President.
_____________________
Maybe not so hard:
Harry S. Truman - US Senator Missouri
John F Kennedy - US Senator Mass.
LBJ - US Senator Texas
Richard M. Nixon - US Senator California
Obama - US Seanator Illinois
not US Senators
Eisenhower
Ford
Carter
Reagan
Bush sr
WJ Clinton
Bush jr
Donald J. Trump
I believe the meaning is DIRECTLY from the Senate.
Only three sitting Senators have won the presidency, but many, many have tried.
Sorry but you dont get to put Truman, LBJ and Nixon on a list of people who went from the Senate to the Presidency. Stopping off at the VP spot on the way changes everything. Especially Truman and LBJ who went directly from VP to president without an election, even though they did go on to win on their own, I know.
And Nixon in 68 was not running on his Senate record. He was Ikes VP. That was his big name recognition card.
from that list only kennedy and obama were not vps first
Nixon was a Rep, also Ford I think.
Hoover bureaucrat.
