Everytime you ban something, restrict freedoms, create new laws for “safety and security”, use the phrases “public good or public safety” the terrorists win. Generally all of these responses do little to deter criminals and terrorists and, in some cases like metal detectors, make it more dangerous for the law abiding citizen.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Every time the government bans things, additional power accrues to the government. Bureaucratic empires get more headcount, budgets get bigger, and serfs, er, citizens have fewer options.
It is never about safety. It is always about power.
