T-Mobile Is Hiring for Their New TV Service

Looking for a job? Want to work on T-Mobile’s new TV service? While details are still thin on exactly what T-Mobile plans to do with their new live TV service, these job listings give us some insight.

Here are the jobs currently listed online for T-Mobile’s new TV service:

Install Techs

Right now, T-Mobile is hiring techs to install set-top-box systems and home Wi-Fi networks. These job posts are in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Detroit. What exactly this means is still unknown, but for now it looks like T-Mobile plans to at least have a TV option that includes a more traditional home installation.

Software Engineer for Cloud DVR

T-Mobile also has a posting for software engineers to work on a new cloud DVR. This sounds a lot more like a live TV streaming service but could still require a traditional set-top box installed by a tech.

CDN Engineer

T-Mobile is also looking for someone to help with “Architecture, development, engineering, integration and testing of complex IP video delivery system utilizing CDN and Web Server technologies.”

So, what can we take away from this?

The fact that T-Mobile is looking to hire techs to install TV set-top boxes probably means they are still on track for a 2018 launch. The other two job postings don’t tell us much because they could just be an effort to build up their existing teams.

This also raises the question about how widespread T-Mobile TV would be. Will it be limited to a handful of markets at launch like how YouTube TV rolled out? For now, we will have to wait and see.
