AUSTIN, TX A man shot dead by police early Friday on 6th Street has been identified by family members as a rapper from Baton Rouge, La.
Aquantis Givens, 21, was shot behind the Terminal 6 bar on 6th Street after police responded at 1 a.m. to a report of shots fired. As police arrived, they took positions near the alley behind the bar when a man is said to have run towards them with a gun, police said.
After repeatedly commanding Givens to drop the gun, eight officers opened fire, according to the official account. Givens was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, but he died shortly after his arrival.
Police had been at the bar earlier amid reports of a fight during was billed as a back-to-school rap concert. Family members learned of Givens' death via social media, according to reports. The dead man leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter.
Family members described Givens as an up-and-coming rapper from Louisiana. He had performed at the Austin club before being shot dead by police.
On social media, Terminal 6 operators said they would set out to bolster security following the violent incident:

21 years old with a 3 year old kid......
“School” in Austin is the University of Texas.
"...Aquantis was an up-and-coming aspiring rapper..."
Most likely believed the anti police crap he was rapping.
The man leaves behind a 3 year old daughter but no wife. There in lies the problem.
Nope. There is no cultural rot in America.
Wow! Maybe his recordings will sell now that he was shot to death.
One less rapper on the world.
The lesson to end all lessons: Never run towards a group of LEO’s responding to a “shots fired” call with a gun in your hand. Boom-Boom!
Were seven of them shooting blanks?
I had to scroll back up and see if this was The Onion.
Instead of calling him an “Up-And-Coming Louisiana Rapper” call him the “man shot for refusing to drop his gun.”
Notice how the article lists others shot by police, all justified.
But leftist rags like “patch” don’t care about truth, only about getting people upset and rioting and burning in the streets.
What an odd way to celebrate business success.
Aquantis was an up and coming rapper
And he was just getting his life turned around, was thinking about getting a job someday to pay for those three babies, and wanted to go to college... blah, blah, blah....
Rap (NOT)music sucks to the same level as this idiots life choices.
“Why’d you shoot him 44 times?”
“Ran outta ammo.”
At least 90% of them are pitiful marksmen
The Darwin Awards should be divided into categories. One certainly would be for “up-and-coming rappers.”
Does getting oneself killed grant one street cred?
