Letter: Trump fixed the economy
The Concord Monitor ^ | August 24, 2018 | Steve Earle

Posted on 08/23/2018 10:16:33 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Does anyone here in New Hampshire really believe the Democratic Party’s call for raising taxes and re-establishing all the regulations Donald Trump ended on business will make life better for working people?

If so, I invite them to explain to me how. Whether you love Trump or hate him, he has brought our economy, jobs and standard of living back from more then a decade of steep decline. I don’t care who you want to blame for that; it’s a fact that President Trump fixed it and that’s what counts.

I really don’t give a darn if the rich are getting richer. So what? I and my family are doing better. My daughter, a single mom, finally has one full-time job with benefits after struggling to hold two, sometimes three, part-time jobs for years. What’s more, her bosses love her. And heck, my wife and I get to see our granddaughter more often.

That'd be a nice little template for a "letter-to-the-editor" in a tight congressional district (hint, hint) wouldn't it?

As much as I really want to agree with this, I strongly disagree.

China is eating America’s businesses for lunch.

We are currently running the highest level of bilateral trade deficit in recorded history, with China.

Trump said he would fix this. But it isn’t fixed yet.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally support the guy. But US business leaders selling our country out, to the world’s biggest communist country, is not what I would call “fixing the economy”.

We really, really need to do something about our ridiculously large trade deficit with China now, while Trump is in office.

I’m not sure we will get another chance at this.

Ever.

You do know that we’re in the midst of the biggest trade war in world history right now, mainly with Red China, don’t you?

I haven’t seen it yet.

They’re mostly posing, back and forth at the moment.

Which means Trump is not doing anything, frankly, on balance.

We are currently running the BIGGEST trade deficit, with China, in recorded history.

Ever.

Right now.

Look at this chart:
https://census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c5700.html

Look at this year’s trade balance numbers.

Then look at last year’s trade balance numbers, between America and China.

The numbers are only published through June at this point. But stop for a moment and look at them.

Last year, we ran the worst trade deficit in recorded history, with China. The WORST EVER.

Now compare last years numbers January - June. With this year’s numbers, January - June.

Go ahead. Look for yourself.

You will see EVERY SINGLE MONTH THIS YEAR, thus far, is even worse.

Every. Single. Month.

We have a huge trade problem with China.

Trump ran on this issue. We are not doing anything yet.

Just saying. Trump said all the right things about this issue. But nothing has been done yet. Both sides are continuing to pose on this issue, which China is taking us as a nation, to the figurative cleaners.

President Trump was on this issue when he ran. Strongly. I believe the fact he was, was a big part of the reason he won.

A whole huge amount of Americans, voted for him, partly because of this issue.

Bring back American production, from China.

Do it.

“Making things better” can be subjective - for many, making everyone equally miserable (like Venezuelans these days) is making things “better”. Instead of dragging themselves out of the septic tank, they want to pull everyone else into it.

Whether you love Trump or hate him, he has instituted policies which brought our economy, jobs and standard of living back from more then a decade of steep decline.

Stating it this way gives those who hate him an out; they can still hate him but they can grudgingly admit the policies are effective.

From your tagline: “TRUTH is the new HATE SPEECH.”

Orwell, 1984: In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

That was my tagline for many years.
