The tariff of on dairy goes back to how Canada subsidizes it’s dairy farmers. Instead of price fixing, they subsidize farmers not to produce, artificially driving up the price through insufficient supply. That doesn’t work if US dairy products came in without a tariff.

Thanks for your very informative post. I had no idea why tariff’s on American dairy products were so high. Now I know.

Perhaps milk could be protected by Canada, but heavily processed dairy such as cheese, ice cream, cream could be free trade items?

That would be meeting Canada at a halfway point.
