What you don’t realize is that the Leftist Elite don’t care about the quality of life of the average people. They will always be insulated from it. Look at Venezuela. You would think that the conditions would have fomented a counter-revolution by now. But no. There are a critical mass of poor, ignorant people who think that (no matter how bad things get), things will be worse if they lose their Government handout (no matter how meager). It is that mindset they are counting on. And they may be right.
The Leftist/ruling elite in Venezuela and elsewhere have the option to leave. I watched it happen in Iran with the exodus of the Shah’s cronies prior to his downfall. The Saudi Royal family is prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. The electronic movement of assets makes it easy.
Eventually government handouts run out.
