2) Its complaints are small. Why does the author object to Trump? The president is not a true philosophical conservative,....
3) It suggests there is a government conspiracy to thwart the president. The author writes that he and others inside the administration are secretly working "to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump's more misguided impulses until he is out of office." At the same time, the author denies that there is a "deep state" seeking to stop Trump, preferring to call it a "steady state."...
4) A "senior official" could be a lot of people. The Times identified the author only as "a senior official in the Trump administration." That could be anyone from officials we all have heard of, like the White House chief of staff, to an official in one of the departments whom no one has heard of....
5) Anonymity is good marketing.... Instead, by remaining anonymous, the author — and the Times — have not only avoided scrutiny but have added an irresistible element of mystery and suspense to the story. That means more attention.

Very good article. I just don’t see how publishing something this seditious and even criminal could suddenly become a point of pride with the left. I honestly think there needs to be a criminal investigation, because if this “source” boasts not only of thwarting the policies of the elected President but being in league with others who are doing the same, we’ve entered coup territory and it should not be allowed to pass.

It would not surprise me if Trump had some geek guys set up a secret email account out of Fairfax, back early in the campaign, then go nightly to pass along ‘tips’ to the NY Times....building up a relationship.
The Times people would be stupid enough to think it’s some character in the administration and glee over the whole thing. Trump would go and do fake ‘hunts’ for the guy. Then toward the election of 2020, he’d announce that he was the ‘resistance’ guy.
The big surprise in the novel 1984 was that the “resistance” was really being ran by the government to catch those that dared to resist.

Couldn’t be. The NYeT claims to know who the source is and they would never cover for Trump.
Complimenting Trump’s accomplishments are what Trump voters want to hear, so this is a means of persuasion and probably nothing more.
I think this individual is a hold-over, possibly a burrowed in Bushie, but more than likely an Obama holdover who is trying to impersonate Pence, because if they get rid of Trump they get stuck with Pence, which has always seemed like a lack of planning on the “Resist” front. Maybe this is their way of finally addressing that flaw in their planning.

It would seem that the Progressive Marxists in the government have truly started to come unraveled from their advanced state of TDS. It’s as if they really don’t understand that by spewing this kind of blather they’re only confirming what we all believe about the Deep State Swamp around Washington and confirming everything President Trump is saying about it’s perniciousness. I think if reflects the hearts of a lot of Republicans like many DJT has endorsed in the elections this year like Mitt Romney in Utah and Cindy Hyde-Smith in Mississippi.

Exactly. Much of what was written in that op-ed has been said or insinuated by any number of republicans. Flake or Corker could say any of it today.
Trump should just say it was all a hoax, and the author was directed by him to write that just to watch the media chase its tail for a few days.
