Anyone interested in this should read “Lesley’s War”. She was the first member of Cultural Support Team (CST) KIA. I don’t give a crap about training, could they hack it in the real world? How about females doing fast rope? They did it. The Rangers said the stayed right with them every step of the way. Part of the CST did community outreach but the other part were there when Rangers were kicking doors down and taking names. The members selected for CST went through an abbreviated Ranger Course led by Rangers. They saved soldier’s lives! They went into families where men could not go. Before they arrived there was a case where a large number of men dressed up as women and walked right out the front door in front of a group of Marines. Many times the CST members would talk quietly with females who would say, “There’s a man living in this house who is not a member of our family”. Since the death of Lesley another CST has been killed. Twelve mines linked together and a Ranger stepped on one and the female was standing 50 meters away and was killed.
Yes, the CST is fine for women, because they’re not extended combat operations.
An interesting post. Further confirmation that the US should exit Afghanistan. We won’t do what the British did to Pathans who ambushed or sniped them, burn down the village, blow up the wells, and cut down the fruit trees. The Pathans are excellent at field craft, good shots and total sh*ts who revel in treachery and viciousness. For them to tolerate you you must convince them you are as violent and unrelenting as they are.
